This program prepares registered nurses to become Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) and leaders in the field of nurse anesthesia.
Program Length
36 months, full-time
The program spans three years, integrating didactic coursework with clinical practicum experiences.

The curriculum includes advanced courses in anesthesia principles, pharmacology, physiology, and leadership, totaling 64 credits.

New cohorts begin annually in June, with an initial focus on foundational anesthesia courses.

Program Requirements
- Educational Background: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution.
- Licensure:
- Current, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Eligibility for RN licensure in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia prior to program start.
- Experience:
- Minimum of one year of full-time experience as an RN in a critical care setting; two years preferred.
- Acceptable critical care areas include Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU), Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU), Coronary Care Unit (CCU), and other intensive care settings.
- Academic Performance:
- Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher; a GPA of 3.3 or above is preferred.
- Strong science GPA is advantageous.
- Graduate Record Examination (GRE):
- GRE scores are required if the cumulative GPA is below 3.5.
- Competitive applicants typically score 500 or above on both the verbal and quantitative sections, and 5 or greater on the analytical writing section.
- GRE must have been completed within the last five years.
- Certifications:
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
- Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) certification is recommended but not required.
- Prerequisite Coursework:
- Chemistry: 3 or more credits, completed with a grade of B or better, within the last five years.
- Biochemistry is highly recommended.
- Statistics: 3 or more credits, completed with a grade of C or better.
- Additional Requirements:
- Three letters of recommendation.
- Personal statement outlining career goals and motivation for nurse anesthesia.
- Current resume or curriculum vitae.
- Successful completion of an interview process.
