Job Description

Rutgers, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School is seeking a full-time Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) to join its clinical anesthesia team in New Brunswick, New Jersey. This position focuses on the delivery of comprehensive anesthesia-related care across the full perioperative continuum within an academic medical environment.

The primary purpose of this role is to provide anesthesia services in four core areas: pre-anesthetic preparation and evaluation, anesthesia induction, maintenance and emergence, post-anesthesia care, and peri-anesthetic clinical support. The CRNA will function as an integral member of the anesthesia care team, contributing to patient safety, clinical excellence, and high-quality outcomes.

In this role, the CRNA is responsible for developing and implementing individualized anesthetic plans based on patient condition, procedural requirements, and clinical best practices. This includes selecting and initiating appropriate anesthetic techniques such as general, regional, and local anesthesia, as well as intravenous sedation and monitored anesthesia care (MAC).

The position also involves selecting, obtaining, and administering anesthetic agents, adjuvant medications, and fluids required to maintain physiologic stability and manage responses to anesthesia or surgery. CRNAs in this role apply and interpret both non-invasive and invasive monitoring modalities and are responsible for airway and pulmonary management, including endotracheal intubation, mechanical ventilation, pharmacologic support, respiratory therapy, and extubation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive pre-anesthetic assessments and evaluations
  • Develop and execute safe, effective anesthetic plans
  • Administer general, regional, local anesthesia, and MAC
  • Manage airway and ventilatory support throughout procedures
  • Monitor physiologic data and respond to intraoperative changes
  • Provide post-anesthesia care and clinical support
