The Barnes-Jewish College Goldfarb School of Nursing Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) — Nurse Anesthesia Concentration is a highly selective 36-month, full-time track offered in affiliation with the Washington University School of Medicine Department of Anesthesiology and accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs (COA). The program typically admits a cohort of approximately 15–20 students each year, blending rigorous didactic instruction with extensive clinical immersion at high-acuity affiliate sites including Barnes-Jewish Hospital, St. Louis Children’s Hospital, Shriner’s Hospital, The Children’s Specialty Care Center, Missouri Baptist Medical Center, and Progress West Hospital. With a curriculum that incorporates high-fidelity simulation labs and an anatomy course with cadaver experience, the program is consistently ranked among the top nurse anesthesia schools in the country.

Program Requirements

Bachelor of Science in Nursing is required.

Current proof of RN license.

A minimum of one year of RN experience in an ICU setting. Highest priority is given to applicants with the most recent experience in high acuity environments and a broad base of adult invasive hemodynamic and ventilator monitoring and management.

Minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale in all undergraduate and graduate course work.

Certifications: ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support), BLS (Basic Life Support), and PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support).

3 credits are required in the following undergraduate classes: Organic Chemistry or Biochemistry, Physics, Anatomy and Physiology, Health Assessment, and Statistics.
