Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Practice (DNAP)

This program prepares registered nurses to become Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) with a doctoral-level education, emphasizing advanced clinical practice and leadership in nurse anesthesia.

Program Length

The program spans three years, integrating comprehensive didactic coursework with extensive clinical practicum experiences.

New cohorts commence annually in May, beginning with an intensive orientation and foundational courses.

Program Requirements

  • Educational Background: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution.
  • Licensure:
    • Current, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in the United States.
    • Eligibility for RN licensure in West Virginia prior to program start.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of one year (two years preferred) of full-time experience as an RN in a critical care setting.
    • Acceptable critical care areas include Medical ICU, Surgical ICU, Neonatal ICU, Pediatric ICU, Cardiovascular ICU, or Cardiopulmonary ICU.
    • Experience should demonstrate independent decision-making, psychomotor skills, and the ability to use and interpret advanced monitoring techniques.
  • Academic Performance:
    • Cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Graduate Record Examination (GRE):
    • Minimum combined score of 297 on the current GRE format (Verbal 153, Quantitative 144) or 900 on the old format.
    • GRE scores must be no older than five years.
  • Certifications:
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
    • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
