The East Carolina University Nurse Anesthesia Program is a full-time, 36-month Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) track through the ECU College of Nursing that prepares registered nurses for advanced anesthesia practice and eligibility to sit for the National Certification Examination. Accredited and selective, the program typically admits about 12 students per cohort and blends rigorous didactic coursework with extensive clinical training — about 90 % of which occurs at ECU Health Medical Center and ECU Health SurgiCenter, a 900+-bed regional Level I trauma center serving eastern North Carolina — along with rotations at affiliate hospitals such as East Carolina Heart Institute, Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, and Chowan Hospital. The curriculum emphasizes evidence-based practice, leadership, simulation, and progressive clinical responsibility, and since its inception the program has maintained a low attrition rate, a strong first-time certification pass rate, and 100 % of graduates employed as CRNAs within months of graduation.
