The Mayo Clinic Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Practice (DNAP) Program in Rochester, Minnesota is a 39-month, full-time track offered through the Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences that prepares registered nurses for advanced anesthesia practice and eligibility to sit for the National Certification Examination. Rooted in a legacy of nurse anesthesia education that dates back to the late 19th century — making it one of the oldest continuous programs in the country — the curriculum blends rigorous didactic coursework in advanced anesthesia sciences, leadership, evidence-based practice, and healthcare systems with extensive clinical experience on Mayo Clinic’s Rochester campus and off-site partner locations. Cohorts are intentionally small (up to ~30 students), and the program emphasizes broad perioperative exposure across general, regional, obstetric, pediatric, and specialty anesthesia cases while fostering clinical judgment and professional autonomy within a world-renowned academic medical center.
