Job Description

The purpose of this position is to serve as a Nurse Anesthetist for operations and other therapeutic and diagnostic procedures. Assess patients preoperative physical status by evaluation of clinical history, physical examination and laboratory and other para-clinical studies as to determine the degree of risk involved in the planned procedures. Accordingly chooses the anesthetic technique and agents and plans the anesthetic management to suit the patients condition, wishes and surgical demands. Interviews the patients to further evaluate their physical status, discuss the type of anesthesia and reassures the patients. Induces, maintains and manages general anesthesia by rectal, parental or inhalation routes, with or without endotracheal intubation. Performs general anesthesia. Monitors and supports vital functions. Participates in the immediate post-anesthetic care, especially in maintaining adequate airway, ventilation and oxygenation during critical periods. Provides standard anesthesia care to patients of all age groups. Maintains patient care and Anesthesia Department documentation of practice standards of the Health Care Finance Administration/Joint Commission, the Hospital and of professional licensing organizations.

Job Qualifications

Required 3 years of previous CRNA experience. Graduate from an American Nurse Anesthetists (AANA) accredited program. Must have a valid license and unrestricted CRNA license. Knowledge and understanding of the physiology, both normal and altered, that will enable the anesthetist to monitor closely all vital functions and rapidly diagnose and correct any potentially dangerous deviation. Knowledge of pharmacology of anesthetic agents (local and general), muscle relaxants, and all other drugs part of the anesthetic armamentarium, and basic knowledge of the ways in which other drug will modify the patients response to surgery and anesthesia. Knowledge of anatomy and physiology of the respiratory system necessary for the administration of inhalation agents, performing endotracheal intubation and use of controlled ventilation. Knowledge of surgical technique that will enable the anesthetist to anticipate the surgeons needs and modify the patients condition according. Knowledge of microbiology and sterilization and aseptic techniques necessary to fulfill the anesthetists role in infection control. A record of satisfactory performance in all prior and current employment as evidence by positive employment references from previous and current employers.
