Wayne State University

School Information Updated February, 2026

The Wayne State University Nurse Anesthesia Program is a full-time, 36-month Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Practice (DNAP) track offered through the Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in Detroit, preparing students for advanced anesthesia practice and eligibility to sit for the National Certification Examination. Accredited and highly structured, the curriculum integrates early clinical immersion — beginning in the second semester — with rigorous classroom instruction in advanced anesthesia sciences, simulation, and professional practice. Students complete hands-on training across approximately 19 affiliate clinical sites in the metropolitan Detroit area and throughout Michigan, gaining exposure to diverse perioperative settings and progressively complex anesthetic cases. Cohorts are typically small (around 24 students), fostering close faculty mentorship and a strong cohort learning environment as students develop clinical judgment, leadership skills, and readiness for independent anesthesia practice.
