Baylor College of Medicine’s Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Nurse Anesthesia Program in Houston is a Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs (COA)-accredited pathway that prepares registered nurses for anesthesia practice through a 36-month curriculum with a front-loaded didactic phase followed by diverse supervised clinical practicum experiences at major Texas Medical Center hospitals. Program Requirements
Bachelor of Science in Nursing is required.
A valid, unencumbered RN license from at least one of the 50 United States. A Texas nursing license is required for the application process.
A minimum of one year (two years preferred) of experience in an area of intensive care nursing, for example: Cardiovascular ICU, Surgical ICU, Neuro ICU, Medical ICU, Pediatric ICU (Level III), Neonatal ICU (Level III), Open-Heart Recovery Unit. Not accepted: Step Down or transition care areas, Post-Coronary Care, Intermediate Care Units, Progressive Care Units, Recovery Room/ Post Anesthesia Care Unit, Operating Room, or Emergency Room.
Cumulative undergraduate grade point average of 3.0 or better.
Completion of the Graduate Record Examination (verbal, quantitative, and analytical writing sections).The GRE exam must have been taken within the past four years. Competitive GRE scores include a 1000 or higher when combining the verbal and quantitative scores and an analytical writing score of 4.0 or higher.
Required Certifications: BLS (Basic Life Support), ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support), and PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support). The CCRN (Critical Care Registered Nurse) is strongly encouraged.
Undergraduate Prerequisites with a B or better in Organic Chemistry and Statistics.
