The Missouri State University School of Anesthesia Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Practice (DNAP) program is a full-time, 36-month curriculum based in Springfield, Missouri, and accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs with a maximum 10-year accreditation award. The program offers both an entry-level RN-to-DNAP pathway and a post-master’s DNAP completion option, allowing it to serve both new CRNA students and practicing nurse anesthetists seeking a doctoral degree. Students progress through the program as a cohort and complete extensive clinical training at affiliated hospitals and surgical centers throughout Missouri and surrounding states, gaining experience in general, regional, obstetric, pediatric, and specialty anesthesia care while building strong clinical independence and professional judgment.

Program Requirements

Bachelor of Science in Nursing is required.

Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the US, its territories or protectorates.

At least one year of experience as a registered nurse in an acute care setting. Two years of experience or more is preferred.

Recommended acute care experience includes: Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Surgical ICU, Medical ICU, and Neurotrauma ICU.

A minimum GPA of 3.00 on a 4.00 scale for the last 60 hours of undergraduate coursework.

The GRE is required. A preferred minimum score of 153 in Verbal Reasoning, 150 in Quantitative Reasoning, and 3.5 in Analytical Writing, or successful passing of the CCRN exam.

Required Certifications: ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support), BLS (Basic Life Support), and PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support).

Course Prerequisites: Inorganic (General) Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Microbiology, Human Anatomy, Human Physiology, and Genetics (is not required but highly recommended).
