The State University of New York at Buffalo (UB) Nurse Anesthesia Program is a full-time, 36-month Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) track offered through the School of Nursing that prepares registered nurses for advanced anesthesia practice and eligibility to sit for the National Certification Examination. Accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs (COA), the program blends rigorous anesthesia science coursework with early clinical immersion at affiliate sites in the Buffalo-Niagara region, including rotations at the University at Buffalo Clinical and Translational Science Institute and major acute care hospitals. With small cohort sizes and a structured progression through didactic and clinical phases, the curriculum emphasizes evidence-based practice, leadership, and comprehensive perioperative anesthesia experience across general, regional, obstetric, and pediatric care settings.

Program Requirements

Bachelor of Science in Nursing is required.

A valid US RN license at the time of enrollment.

A minimum of one year of critical care experience as a registered professional nurse is required. This experience is most often acquired within an Intensive Care Unit, where you have been involved in advanced assessment and clinical decision-making based on the interpretation of advanced hemodynamic monitoring and diagnostic assessment. Most applicants possess more than one year of supportive critical care experience.

A minimum overall GPA of at least 3.0 is required. If your GPA is below 3.0, you are required to take the GRE. GRE scores obtained only within the last 5 years will be accepted.
