The Youngstown State University Nurse Anesthesia Program is a full-time, 36-month Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) track offered through YSU’s School of Nursing in partnership with Mercy Health – St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital and other regional clinical affiliates. Accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs (COA), the curriculum integrates advanced anesthesia sciences with early and sustained clinical immersion, simulation training, and evidence-based practice to prepare students for the National Certification Examination and independent anesthesia practice. The program admits a small, competitive cohort each year and emphasizes broad perioperative exposure — including general, regional, obstetric, pediatric, and specialty anesthesia — while developing leadership, professional judgment, and interprofessional collaboration skills.

Program Requirements
Bachelor of Science in Nursing is required.
Eligibility of Ohio licensure as a registered nurse.
Minimum of one year experience in an adult critical care area. A minimum of two years experience is preferred. Examples of critical care units may include but are not limited to: Surgical ICU, Cardiothoracic ICU, Coronary ICU, or Medical ICU. Those who have experiences in other areas may be considered provided they can demonstrate competence with managing unstable patients, invasive monitoring, ventilators, and critical care pharmacology.
GPA of 3.0 or better preferred.
Graduate Record Examination (General Test) scores completed within the past five years.
Certifications: PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) and ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support). The CCRN is not required but preferred.
Undergraduate Course Prerequisites: Health Assessment, Statistics, and Research Methods.
