The University of Cincinnati Nurse Anesthesia Program is a full-time, 36-month Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) track offered through the College of Nursing that prepares registered nurses for advanced anesthesia practice and eligibility to sit for the National Certification Examination. Accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs (COA), the curriculum blends rigorous didactic instruction with high-fidelity simulation and early clinical immersion at affiliate sites across the Cincinnati region, including extensive rotations in perioperative units, obstetric suites, regional anesthesia techniques, and pediatric anesthesia. The program typically admits a selective cohort each year and emphasizes evidence-based practice, leadership, interprofessional teamwork, and progressive development of clinical judgment and autonomy for practice in diverse healthcare settings.

Program Requirements
Bachelor of Science in Nursing is required.
A non-restricted RN license is required in order to apply to the program. Non-restricted Ohio and Kentucky RN licenses required upon acceptance into the program.
Minimum of one year of full-time critical care/intensive care experience as a RN within the last three years. Acceptable critical care settings include adult and pediatric intensive care units only. Priority is given to candidates currently working in a high acuity, large hospital ICU setting. The following units are not accepted as critical care experience: Neonatal ICU, ICU step-down, Operating Room, Post-anesthesia care unit, Invasive radiology/cardiology, or Emergency Room.
Science GPA of 3.0 or higher.
On the revised GRE, a minimum score of 150 for Verbal Reasoning and a minimum score of 150 on Quantitative Reasoning are preferred. On the older GRE, a minimum combined score of 1000 (verbal and quantitative) and a minimum score of 4.5 on the analytical writing sections are expected. The GRE must be completed within the last 5 years.
Certifications: ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) is required for admission, PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) and CCRN (Critical Care Registered Nurse) is required for admission.
